The Crossing College is accredited through Transworld Accrediting Commission International (TAC). We have decided to pursue accreditation through TAC for two main reasons: First, it is our desire to select instructors based on spiritual gifting and relevant experience, not just level of education. Governmental accrediting agencies require a certain level of education for instructors at postsecondary degree-granting institutions. Accreditation through TAC allows gifted and experienced pastors and other church leaders to contribute their God-given wisdom and practical knowledge to the curriculum and instruction at The Crossing College. Second, we desire to keep our tuition costs affordable, allowing more students to access our program while avoiding debt. Accreditation by a governmental agency would make it difficult for us to meet these goals. Through TAC, we are able to offer quality, practical instruction for a significantly lower cost than other private institutions. We continue to demonstrate our credibility through evidence of leadership and ministry of those who have attended.
Transworld Accrediting Commission is an international, non-governmental educational accrediting body, federally recognized as a non-profit church educational organization. TAC has accredited more than 500 Theological Schools, Seminaries, Universities, Colleges and Programs all over the world. Their philosophy is to demonstrate accountability to the consuming public for education obtained in non-traditional evangelical educational institutions. This accountability is demonstrated by institutions that are accredited by TAC, having documented evidence of compliance with TAC standards of structure and governance, material resources, policies, faculty and curriculum. A college is accredited when it has been investigated and meets criteria by an accrediting agency. There are two different types of accreditation: Governmental and non-governmental. Governmental accrediting agencies are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Non-governmental accrediting agencies may be federally recognized as legitimate organizations, but are not overseen by government mandates. Since not all accreditation is equal, accreditation alone does not determine whether or not a school is legitimate or credible. In addition, schools located outside of the U.S. may be accredited by standards that differ from those of U.S. agencies.
The Crossing College also meets Minnesota state requirements for religious exemption from pursuant to Minnesota Statute 141.37 EXEMPTION; RELIGIOUS SCHOOLS as verified by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (MOHE). MOHE has determined that The Crossing College qualifies for religious exempt status from the Degree Authorization Act for the following programs: Diploma in Biblical Studies and Associates Degree in Church Leadership and Ministry. Religious exempt status for the Certificates in Worship Ministries, Pastoral Ministries, and Kids & Student Ministries is in progress as of September 12, 2016. The MOHE ensures that private institutions of postsecondary education are conducted lawfully. The Crossing College satisfies all of the applicable MOHE requirements.
